Students from the Agriculture Department of the Subang State Polytechnic (Polsub) visited PT Dahana to learn about Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) theories and practices applicable in the professional world. The student group was warmly received by Dahana’s Corporate Communications Manager, Tris Budiman, at the Dahana Roundtable in Subang on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
In his remarks, Mr Budiman introduced PT Dahana, which was born out of the “Menang Project” and relocated to Subang from Tasikmalaya in 2012. In Subang, Dahana established the Energetic Material Center (EMC), which is the largest explosives facility in Southeast Asia.
“For Dahana, OHS is not just a regulation, but the lifeblood of the Company’s operations. Because we work with high-risk operational activities, safety is a top priority that cannot be compromised. This safety culture is embedded from the entrance gate to the deepest production areas,” said Mr Budiman.
Participants then had the opportunity to listen to Dahana’s Senior Manager of OHS & Security, Ivan Angga, who explained the implementation of Dahana’s OHS Management System. He elaborated how Dahana identifies hazards, assesses risks, and implements risk controls in every operation to ensure the safety of employees and the environment.
Furthermore, Mr Angga explained that OHS practices at Dahana are not only procedural but also cultural. He provided concrete examples of the implementation of safety induction, the use of specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for hazard zones, and the readiness of the emergency response team. Ivan emphasized that OHS success is measured by the commitment of all company elements to mutually safeguard and comply with regulations without compromise in order to achieve the Zero Accident target.
After receiving a theoretical explanation indoors, the students were invited to observe first-hand the implementation in the field through a visit to the Ring 1 area. Guided by the K3L team, the students were shown how K3 procedures are strictly implemented in this most vital area. This experience provided students with a clear visual overview of safety governance in high-risk areas.
Atika Romalasari, a lecturer in charge of the OHS course at Subang State Polytechnic, expressed her appreciation for Dahana’s management. She stated that the opportunity to learn directly from practitioners in a high-risk industry like Dahana was a very valuable and beneficial experience for her students.
“I hope that students will not only understand OHS theory in the classroom, but also see its relevance in the real world. Hopefully, after seeing the high standards implemented by Dahana, students will have a strong safety awareness and mentality when they enter the workforce,” Ms Romalasari concluded.
